40 - is it really the new 30?

So, my birthday is in 11 days.  I've been really excited about it.  I know that I am blessed to have been able to get this far, especially with my recent diagnosis of sarcoidosis.  Today at work, a lady tells me that 40 is the new 30.  I've heard this plenty of times but never gave any thought to it because it was not relavant to me.  But, today I give pause to ponder that statement.

I believe that this statement was likely started by someone in the baby boomer age.  It seems that this is the generation that pioneered breaking away from the "norm" with regards to social behaviors and expectations.  Maybe saying that 40 is the new 30 somehow made/makes one feel younger.  However, I believe with age comes wisdom.  I am so much smarter and aware than I was at 30 or at 20, etc.  I have had experiences in my 30s which were great learning lessons.  I've also had events that have impacted me negatively.  Either way, I am excited to be leaving the 30s behind and embrace all that the 40s has to offer.

So, for me, 40 is just what it is - 40, and I'm thankful to God for letting me make it thus far.
